Xander Schauffele wins the PGA Championship and his first major title after holding off Bryson DeChambeau in thrilling final day at Valhalla

Xander Schauffele has won the PGA Championship after edging fellow American Bryson DeChambeau on a thrilling final day at Valhalla to win his first major title.

DeChambeau birdied the 18th hole to take a share of the lead at 20-under par while Schauffele was on the 17th fairway.

The Tokyo Olympics champion managed a par on the penultimate hole before narrowly escaping a fairway bunker with his tee shot on 18.

Schauffele laid up and hit his second brilliantly just short of the green before getting up and down for a birdie that saw him win by one stroke and claim $3.5million in prize money.

Viktor Hovland finished three back on 18-under.
