What’s better than sex? A lot of things, if Twitter is to be trusted.
Users of the social media platform are celebrating life’s simple pleasures in hilarious tweets, which all claim that the most wholesome of joys are better than getting intimate.
The viral trend has been around for the past couple of years, but it has recently resurfaced and is currently getting near-constant updates on Twitter, with creators finding new sources of inspiration every minute.
It’s the simple joys! Twitter users are celebrating life’s simplest pleasures in a series of sentences that all claim they are better than sex
Going way back: The trend has been around for a couple of years (and the above was posted in February 2015) but has recently resurfaced and is now getting near-constant updates
Festive! In a recent—and especially relevant during the holiday season—instance, one Twitter user celebrated the pleasure of feeling scissors ‘glide’ while cutting wrapping paper
All the sentences begin with the words ‘Yeah sex is cool but’ and go on to praise another activity, such as biting into a delicious piece of garlic bread or the triumphant feeling of closing 15 different internet tabs after finishing a project.
‘Yeah sex is cool but have you ever cut wrapping paper and the scissors started to glide?’ one Twitter user asked in a recent—and especially relevant during the holiday season—instance.
Another person dedicated their tweet to the simple pleasure of a perfect eyebrow line, asking: ‘Yeah sex is cool and all but have you ever filled in your eyebrows after you got them done?’
One of the tweets also seems particularly well-suited for fall, since it asks: ‘Yeah sex is cool but have you ever stepped on a crunchy leaf?’
Someone appeared to have drawn inspiration from classmates who are prone to slacking during group assignments and wrote: ‘Yeah sex is cool but have you tried doing your part in the group paper?’
Issues: Others used their tweets to raise awareness for causes close to their heart, such as this person asking others whether they have ever dreamed of free scientific journals
Current: Similarly, someone referenced the upcoming vote to gut rules meant to stop broadband companies from exercising more control over what people watch and see online
Pattern: All the sentences begin with the words ‘Yeah sex is cool but’ and go on to praise another activity, such as closing 15 different internet tabs after wrapping up a project
So satisfying: One of the tweets celebrates witty conversation partners who respond to sarcasm with more (and even better) sarcasm
So sleek: Another person dedicated their tweet to the simple pleasure of having a perfectly defined eyebrow line
Autumnal: Among the many pleasures celebrated in the tweets is the satisfaction of stepping on an especially crunchy leaf
One of the tweets pays tribute to well-trained pets with the question: ‘Yeah sex is cool but have you ever called a dog from another room and you hear his paws hitting the floor as he runs towards you?’
Some of the Twitter users took full advantage of Twitter’s new 280-character limit and wrote longer messages, taking full advantage of the feature to describe specific situations in detail.
‘Yeah sex is cool but have you ever received emotional support from a like-minded individual who wants to be a part of your growth and development?’ one person asked the Twitterverse.
Others used their tweets to raise awareness for causes close to their heart, such as a person who wrote: ‘Yeah sex is cool but have you ever dreamed of a day when scientific journals would be free to access and publicly funded?’
Similarly, someone else tweeted ‘Yeah sex is cool and all but have you ever dialed (+1) 202-759-7593 to let your senators know that you oppose the repeal of net neutrality?’ as a reference to the upcoming vote by the Federal Communications Commission to gut rules meant to stop broadband companies from exercising more control over what people watch and see on the internet.
