Paramount’s highly-successful Yellowstone franchise has expanded once again, with the new prequel series 1923 that debuted on Sunday, and was a big hit.
A reported 7.4 million viewers watched the premiere episode on Sunday night, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The episode – which featured Helen Mirren’s Cara Dutton killing a trespasser and more – had four broadcast cable airings, three on Paramount Network and one on CMT.

Paramount claims the 1923 premiere delivered the biggest cable premiere of 2022, though final numbers for Sunday’s telecasts will arrive from Nielsen on Tuesday.

1923 stars Harrison Ford in his first major television role, portraying Jacob Dutton alongside Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren as his wife Cara Dutton.

The 1923 cast also includes Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, and Jerome Flynn.
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan created 1923 and executive produces with John Linson, Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari and Ben Richardson.
1923 is the second Yellowstone prequel series, following last year’s 1883 starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton.

Sheridan also has another present-day spin-off entitled 6666, set on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, and expected to debut in 2023.
Yellowstone debuted its fifth season in mid-November, debuting to 10.3 million viewers across Paramount Network, CMT, TV Land and Pop.
The premiere was the highest-rated entertainment telecast of 2022, matched just weeks later by the Thanksgiving episode of Fox’s The Masked Singer.
Coming soon: Sheridan also has another present-day spin-off entitled 6666, set on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, and expected to debut in 2023
