A Yorkshire Terrier has died after being crushed by a large package that a FedEx delivery driver allegedly threw over the family’s fence.

The four-pound dog named Cooper had to be euthanized in Venice, California at the weekend after suffering horror injuries to her lungs and liver.

Her owners, Keiko Napier and Mitchell Galin, told CBS2 that they found their beloved dog in a pool of blood after being crushed by the large package.

They said Cooper was sunning herself in their backyard when a FedEx employee launched the package over their fence and it landed on the dog.

‘I immediately picked up the box and Cooper was in a puddle of blood,’ Napier said.

They rushed the dog to a nearby veterinarian where they were told their dog’s lungs and liver had been severely damaged.

The couple decided to euthanize Cooper the following day due to the extent of her injuries.

They are now urging FedEx to take action to prevent drivers from taking shortcuts with deliveries.

‘The package was so heavy, should it have struck one of us, it would’ve caused damage – very very severe damage,’ Napier said, adding that their grandchild often plays outside.

‘I feel they need to say they’re going to institute a corporate-wide mandate that drivers cannot throw packages; that’s what I want to hear. I don’t want to hear we’ll look into it.’

FedEx said they would be investigating the incident.

‘We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the pet involved in this incident,’ the statement said.

‘We take this matter very seriously and are working directly with those involved to determine the circumstances behind this event. Based on the outcome of our investigation, we will take the appropriate action.’
