‘You are a child’: Biden hits back at Trump for saying he ‘can’t hit a ball 50 yards’ during bizarre row about golf and WEIGHT

  • A question about age descended into bickering about golf
  • Trump attacked Biden’s game, then said ‘Let’s not act like children’

The presidential debate nearly went off the rails as two elderly candidates traded jabs about each other’s golf games.

It happened after President Joe Biden and then former President Donald Trump answered questions from CNN moderator Dana Bash about concerns voters have expressed about their age, on a night Biden gave meandering answers and Trump bragged about acing a cognitive test.

‘Let’s not act like children,’ Trump said, near the end of a debate that featured a slew of insults and accusations of lies.

‘You are a child,’ Biden told him.

Trump bragged about her performance during physicals in the White House.

‘I took two tests cognitive tests, I aced them both of them,’ said Trump, 78, hitting Biden, 81, for refusing. Biden grinned during the attack, as the barbs grew increasingly personal.

‘I just won two club championships,’ Trump boasted, referencing two wins at his own golf club that Biden mocked him for bragging about online.

‘It’s not even senior. Two regular club championships,’ he said.

He was referencing winning a pair of championships at his own Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, a club championship and a senior championship trophy.

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump traded insults over golf in the debate in Atlanta

‘To do that, you have to be quite smart, and you have to be able to be quite smart, and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way. And I do it. He doesn’t do it. He can’t hit a ball 50 yards.

Then Biden appeared to mock Trump for fudging his height and weight.

‘You can see he is 6 foot five and only 225 pounds,’ Biden responded, as Trump shook his head. ‘I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him.’

Biden said he got his golf handicap down to a 6, causing a pained expression of disbelief on Trump’s face.

‘I’d be happy to play golf with you if you carry your own bag. Think you can do it?’ Biden asked him.

‘Let’s not act like children,’ Trump said.

‘You are a child,’ said Biden, getting in the last word.

Long after the debate was over, golf was still on Trump’s mind. He posted a video of himself hitting a long drive.

Trump had telegraphed the golf attack online before the debate, giving Biden’s team time to prepare.

Biden had gotten under his skin with a March attack after Trump announced his golf wins at his private club.

‘Congratulations, Donald. Quite the accomplishment,’ Biden wrote on X.

The country club clash came in an election where voters are registering concerns with Biden’s age, and in a debate where there was a burden on Biden to demonstrate vigor.

Instead, some top Democratic operatives were in a panic after Biden gave meandering answers at the top of the debate and sometimes lost his train of thought and stared downward during Trump’s answers.
