‘You rather brought the tone down’: Charlie Stayt calls out Naga Munchetty as she awkwardly admits she doesn’t like ice cream during live interview with factory owner

Twitter has slammed Naga Munchetty for acting ‘arrogant’ when a live interview devolved into an awkward conversation between the BBC Breakfast presenter and new business correspondent Hannah Miller.

The broadcaster’s newcomer was doing a report on an ice cream factory – and as she finished up the report with some delicious samples, she told the studio: ‘I bet you wish you were here now!’

However Naga, 47, simply replied: ‘I don’t like ice cream, Hannah.’

The bewildered presenter exclaimed: ‘You don’t like ice cream?’

‘If I had to eat an ice cream for the rest of my life it would be pistachio flavour,’ the host admitted. ‘But I don’t like cold food.’

Following an awkward silence, Hannah then questioned: ‘Do you like brownies?’, to which Naga said ‘not so much’.

As the uncomfortable silence stretched on, Naga laughed and added: ‘But we’ll get to know each other, Hannah!’

As the business reporter joked that she ‘won’t be bringing brownies into the office’, Naga insisted: ‘No, no everyone else does, don’t let me deny the rest of the office.’

She concluded: ‘Hannah, it’s been great talking to you. I’m glad you’re enjoying the ice cream, certainly needed in this weather.’

Back in the studio, co-host Charlie Stayt seemed less than pleased as he told Naga she ‘rather brought the tone down’.

Brushing it off, Naga laughed: ‘Be quiet, come on!’, and followed up with a quick apology as her fellow presenter pointed out that Hannah was ‘working hard’ on the report.

Twitter went wild as the awkward clip was shared around, with some calling for Naga to apologise to the ice-cream makers and Hannah directly.

‘Feel sorry for the poor reporter and the owner of the ice cream business after Naga Munchetty makes it all about herself (as usual) on @BBCBreakfast,’ one user said.

‘Hope she has the decency to apologise fully to both reporter & company. #CharlieStayt was right to call it out,’ another read.

A third tweet branded the breakfast presenter ‘self-absorbed’, saying it ‘it made the young reporter feel awkward’.

Another comment quipped: ‘Naga Munchetty doesn’t like ice cream…she specialises in souring any situation.’

Others praised Charlie for his comment to his-cost.

‘Massive professional congratulations to Charlie Stayt on @BBCBreakfast for saying what the rest of the country was thinking. Good job sir. #nagamunchetty should be ashamed of herself.’

However others felt confused about the drama.

‘What is it about Naga Munchetty that really triggers people?’ one questioned, as another remarked: ‘I find it so weird how Naga Munchetty always trends for something negative. I think she’s really nice myself!’
