  • Then she took a common spoon and scraped off all the muck in just 45 minutes
  • Many revealed tips of their own including oven cleaner, dishwasher liquid

A mum shocked hundreds after revealing the surprising way she cleaned all the grime off of her old frypan.

‘Just me and my trusty spoon,’ she shared on a popular Facebook group. ‘Yes, I cleaned it all off with it!’

She posted a photo of a beat up frypan she got for free from an op shop, and wanted to attempt cleaning it in case it could still be used.

The mum also posted a photo of the spoon, and shared her cleaning process.

She first soaked the pan in hot water with a dash of detergent and scratched off all the muck with a spoon.

‘Not a razor, not steel wool, NOTHING helped but this little spoon did wonders for my new pan,’ she wrote.

‘There are no marks on pan and spoon is still smooth around edges. It’s hard to believe it works, but it does.’

She added, ‘I think knives help too, of course, but spoons are so much safer and you can use them from different angles. Knives are definitely more of a safety hazard.’

‘I recommend it instead of going out and buying a new pan,’ she said, ‘but the scratching of metal against metal drove my husband out of the room!’

However, many commenters were dissuaded when she revealed that the whole process took more than forty-five minutes.

‘So much time and effort,’ wrote one woman. ‘Looks good as new but definitely not worth it.’

‘I only use non-stick pans and doing this would completely ruin that,’ shared another.

But many were impressed with the mum’s effort and shared tips and tricks of their own.

‘That pan is sparkling,’ said one woman. ‘Well done!’

Another shared, ‘I use oven cleaner. Works beautifully and is surprisingly easy – but remember to wear gloves.’

‘I put dishwasher tablets in it and soak them for a while,’ added a third. ‘Looks just like yours when it’s done.’
