A teenage boy who was killed by a falling tree branch while collecting firewood with his dad is being remembered as a ‘kind and gentle soul’.

Malakai Revill, 17, had been felling trees in Dover, in Tasmania’s Far South, when he was struck by the tree branch just after 4pm on Sunday.

Despite the efforts of police and paramedics, Malakai sadly died at the scene.

His father was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A GoFundMe campaign organised by Joanne Denehey-Shreeve has raised over $5,000 to give Malakai the ‘send-off he deserves’.

She said the Revill family is going through an ‘extremely hard time right now’.

‘To everyone who has participated and donated or shared my post I would like to thank you on behalf of the Revill, Beattie and Shreeve families,’ she said.

‘Most of all for honouring a beautiful young man Malakai Revill, a truly gentle kind soul and best friend you could wish for your child to have.

‘I set this page up thinking it wouldn’t reach many people, I’m overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and compassion for Malakai and his family.

‘I feel thanking you all isn’t enough for making this happen. I’m so proud to live in a place that we support each other when we need it.’

Tasmania Police told Daily Mail Australia the investigation was ongoing.

‘It is anticipated to take some time to finalise,’ a spokeswoman said.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
