A young child has died after a caravan caught fire at a lakeside tourist town in Victoria.
Emergency services were called to the blaze on Lake View Street, in Boort, at 5.50pm on Thursday.
Fire crews managed to extinguish the fire but they found the dead child inside the caravan.
Victoria Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
‘The Arson and Explosives Squad has been notified and an arson chemist will attend the scene to determine the cause of the fire,’ a spokesperson said.
‘Officers are aware of the impact that such a tragic incident has on family, community members and first responders and will ensure that welfare services are in place.’
Boort, located next to Lake Boort in the Shire of Loddon, is a tourist hotspot northwest of Melbourne.
It becomes busy in the summer months when travellers flock to lakes in the area.

It’s not yet clear if the child was local or a visitor.
