Young man is shot dead in Parramatta – as police launch an urgent investigation as two others flee the scene

A young man was shot dead in Parramatta this morning, as two suspected gunmen are on the run after allegedly fleeing the scene in a stolen car before setting it alight. 

Emergency services were called to Harold Street shortly after 3.30am after reports of a shooting. 

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a man, however, he died at the scene. 

He is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged 29.

Around 15 minutes later, at 3.45am, fire crews were called to Abeckett Street, Granville, a ten-minute drive away, following reports of a car fire. 

A sedan, which had been reported stolen, was well alight.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze.

‘Police have established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the incident, with two men reportedly seen leaving the scene in another vehicle,’ a NSW Police spokesperson said.

‘As inquiries continue, it’s not known if the two incidents are connected, however the fire is being treated as suspicious.’

Detectives urge anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam vision in relation the incidents to contact Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
