Your chance to own a place on Billionaire’s Row

It is one of the wealthiest streets in the world and you could get your hands on one of the sought-after properties… if you have a spare £6.9million in the bank.

But that’s a relative bargain for homes found on The Bishops Avenue, in Hampstead, north London.

Dubbed ‘Billionaires Row’, properties on one of Britain’s most expensive streets can cost up to £15million for a penthouse, while mansions sell for up to £50million.

Famous former residents of the tree-lined road include Saudi Princes, Bernie Ecclestone, Ringo Starr, Joan Collins and billionaire steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.

The 66-house street is now home to 20 jaw-dropping apartments in a Buxmead development, and remarkable pictures show one extravagant three-bedroom apartment on sale for nearly £7million.

Residents also have access to incredible leisure facilities such as a professional cinema room with plumped leather sofas and popcorn on tap, indoor swimming pool and spa, concierge service, beauty salon and a private dining room.

Set within 2.5 acres of gated landscaped grounds with ‘top class’ security from the same company who provided similar services to the Israeli Embassy, there is also an impressive games room and residents’ lounge and bar.

Anil Varma, Managing Director of the Buxmead developers Harrison Varma, said: ‘Buxmead has been created to offer effortless living, exemplary services and outstanding facilities in an exclusive London location.

‘Residents can take advantage of the array of amenities and facilities, which are effectively an extension of their apartment. If they wish to hold a party, an event or a conference, they can do so in our extensive facilities and keep their private space, private.

‘This recent innovation to luxury living is ideal for those who want all the benefits of a 20,000 square foot house but without the hassle and unnecessary expense.

‘When equating the generous proportions of each apartment with the 16,000 square foot of amenities, residents are paying less than £500 per sq. ft. for this privilege.’

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was one recent celebrity who lived on the famous street as he rented a 15-bedroom property for £108,333 a month, or almost £1.3million a year, it was reported in October 2016.

During the first Gulf war the Saudi royal family bought 10 of the street’s 66 mansions but sold them in 2013 for £80 million to make way for the modern development.

Steel industrialist Lakshmi Mittal, called the street home before he sold his £40million property in 2008.

The Bishops Avenue, which runs between Hampstead Heath and East Finchley, attracts wealthy buyers thanks to its large houses and extensive gardens, which gives it a rural atmosphere despite its relatively central location.

But many of the houses were left abandoned by their super-wealthy owners so the recently built apartment complex aims to put the Avenue back on the map for buyers.

The sky-high prices were one clue to why so many of the houses are empty, as the homes were too expensive for nearly all Londoners.

This meant they ended up being bought by overseas royals and celebrities who maintained their main residence elsewhere. Yet the more ‘affordable’ premises aim to change this.

The tree-lined street connects the north side of Hampstead Heath at Kenwood to East Finchley and the street is named after Bishops Wood which runs through the avenue.

In the 1980s average property prices exceeded the £1million mark but in 2006 the smallest houses were selling for £5million.

In 2008 one of the most prestigious addresses, Toprak Mansion, sold for £50million.

The road is also mentioned in Elton John’s 1988 reworking of Give Peace A Chance, ‘Why not talk about Bishop’s Avenue,’ and ‘I’ve got a lovely house on Bishop’s Avenue.’

Martin Lamb, the estate agent who was in charge of selling the house, said: ‘In 30 years, this is the only house I have sold with its own private beach. This is the best house I have sold. It is like the South of France but in Devon.’

The house was up for sale in December 2013 for £7.5 million.
