YouTube star Lauren Southern slams multiculturalism in Sydney

A touring Canadian right-wing provocateur has slammed Australian multiculturalism after spotting a poster from a tenant looking for an ‘Asian only’ share housemate.

YouTube star Lauren Southern, who describes herself as a nationalist and abhors the term ‘alt right’, has landed in Sydney ahead of her Saturday night show at an undisclosed location.

The 23-year-old critic of multiculturalism tweeted an image of an ‘Asian only’ advertisement for a share housemate, but came under fire from critics online.

‘Just got to Sydney and already seeing the lovely impacts of multiculturalism,’ she tweeted today to her 383,000 followers.

Her tweet was liked 4,578 times.

Critics were quick to attack Southern for her post, asking her what she expected immigrants relocating in Australia to do.

‘What do you expect immigrants to do? Sleep on roads? Well close doors to immigration then and revert back to the white Australian policy,’ one woman wrote.

‘What would the response be if the advert asked for white tenants only?,’ questioned another.

Southern responded by saying Asians living in Australia should ‘do business with everyone instead of having an extremely tribalistic in group preference that segregates them from the rest of the population.’

The Vancouver-based social media star said she agreed with Pauline Hanson's 1996 maiden speech to parliament where she said Australia was 'in danger of being swamped by Asians'

The Vancouver-based social media star said she agreed with Pauline Hanson’s 1996 maiden speech to parliament where she said Australia was ‘in danger of being swamped by Asians’

In a wide-ranging interview with Daily Mail Australia, the social media star said she agreed with One Nation leader Pauline Hanson’s 1996 maiden speech to parliament where she said Australia was ‘in danger of being swamped by Asians’.

‘I can tell you now Sydney certainly has a problem with mass Chinese immigration and Chinese buying of properties,’ she said.

‘It hardly belongs to Australia anymore and that is a serious concern.

‘Pauline may have said it in quite frank terms that really make people scared and make them uncomfortable but it is a reality that our countries are being bought up by the Chinese.’

While Southern doesn’t support the idea of Australia reviving the White Australia policy, she said migrants from racial minorities had a tendency to be tribal even if they supported the Western ideals of democracy and liberal, individual rights.

‘Even if they love Western culture, if they have that inkling in the back of their mind that race and tribe are extremely important, they’re going to make political decisions based off it,’ she said.

She also accused Chinese migrants of being ‘culturally racist’.

‘The fact of the matter is, for the most part, they’re very tribalistic, the Chinese,’ she said.

‘They won’t speak to non-Chinese people.

‘They send their kids to Chinese-only schools, they change their government meetings to Chinese.’

Southern disagreed with the idea of reintroducing a racially discriminatory immigration like the White Australia policy, admitting there were some ‘exceptional’ Asian migrants who integrated well into Western society.

‘Of course there can be exceptions to the rule but you never argue or make policy on the exception: that is a very foolish thing to do,’ she said.

The controversial social media personality said European migrants should be favoured over people of other races when it came to the overall intake, even if Asian immigration wasn’t banned.

‘You should put migrants first that are going to work best with the culture in Australia,’ she said.

‘So yes, of course it’s going to make more sense that Europeans would assimilate better with a culture that was based on Western values.’

Former Liberal immigration minister Philip Ruddock, who was renowned for being tough on border protection, strongly disagreed with her view on Asians and said race should not exclude anyone from moving to Australia.

‘I have a very strong view about migration: it should be non-discriminatory in terms of race and culture and other factors,’ he told Daily Mail Australia today.

The majority of Australian immigrants have come from Asia, with India and China the top two sources for new residents.

People from Asia made up seven of the top 10 places where migrants had moved from, with The Philippines, Pakistan, Vietnam, Nepal and Malaysia on the list in the year to June 2017.

Only one of those nations, Pakistan, was a Muslim-majority country.
