A YouTuber came out as bisexual to her loved ones in a sweet video, asking them to draw her crush based on the few clues she provided them with.
Elle Mills, 19, shared the touching clip with her 662,000 subscribers earlier this week, explaining she had decided to come out publicly after months of anxiety at the thought of taking this important step.
The vlogger, based in Ontario, Canada, explained that throughout the years, she has been attracted to both males and females, but ‘heavily repressed’ the latter crushes.
Announcement: YouTuber Elle Mills (pictured) came out as bisexual to her loved ones in a sweet video, asking them to draw her crush based on the few clues she provided them with
Clues: The vlogger had several friends sit down in front of her camera, and told them she was about to describe her crush, instructing them to draw what they think that person looks like
Touched: All of the participants drew a boy, but Elle surprised them by revealing her crush is actually a woman, eliciting some very moved reactions
But during a night out, she broke down and told one of her friends, who immediately told her that her feelings were something to be celebrated, not hidden.
After the outing, Elle told three other friends over the course of a month, leading up to her public coming out a few days ago.
She had several friends sit down in front of her camera, and told them she was about to describe her crush, instructing them to draw what they think that person looks like.
‘Here are the attributes: nice hazel eyes, has tattoos, kind heart, enjoys roller coasters, good taste in music, talented and charming,’ Elle said.
One of the participants declared confidently she knew who the crush was—and all ended up instinctively drawing a boy.
But Elle surprised them by showing them a picture of her actual crush, who is a woman.
Playing the game: One of the participants (picured) declared confidently she knew who the crush was, but like all the others, she drew a male character
Thrilled: When Elle revealed a picture of her actual crush, her friend clapped and exclaimed ‘That’s awesome!’
All of her loved ones were moved by her revelation, and several jumped up from their seats to give Elle a hug.
‘That’s awesome!’ one of them said after clapping.
Another one of Elle’s friends stared in awe briefly, then joked: ‘You can’t be gay. I’m gay.’
Elle also shared an emotional clip of herself she recorded three days before coming out to her family, and four days before coming out publicly.
She can be seen talking to the camera, shedding a few tears as she explains how anxious she is feeling at the prospect of telling her loved ones she is bisexual.
Opening up: Elle also shared an emotional clip of herself she recorded three days before coming out to her family, and four days before coming out publicly
Family love: The vlogger also received a big hug from her mother, who told her she accepts Elle for who she really is
‘I’m scared that my relationships with the people in my life right now are going to be different. People are going to look at me differently,’ she said.
‘Certain family members and friends won’t want to be friends with me the way we used to be.
‘I have this, like, heavy weight on my chest. It’s been something that’s been an elephant in the room in my life for a long time. Been feeling really depressed the past few months because of it.
‘I just want to be able to like someone and be able to tell my mom or my other friends.’
Elle’s friends, however, proved supportive, and helped her celebrate her coming out by wrapping her house in bright wrapping paper of various colors to form a rainbow pattern.
Her mother and her brother, seeing the display, hugged her, with her mom telling Elle she accepts her for who she is.
The video ends with Elle proudly re-introducing herself to the camera, declaring: ‘Hi, I’m Elle Mills, And I’m bisexual.’
