YouTuber Hannah Forcier reveals how her hair fell out

A devastated YouTuber has tearfully revealed how she accidentally caused her hair to fall out after using a new product—because she did not read a warning not to use it on bleached hair.

Hanna Forcier, 21, has naturally brown hair, but previously bleached it to make it platinum blonde, and then dyed it pink.

The social media star, based in Los Angeles, explained that she tried the product, which she didn’t name, hoping it would ‘help’ her hair, only for the exact opposite to happen.

‘I covered my hair in the cream and waited the correct amount of time and I got in the shower. When I turned around in the shower and felt all the water rushing through my hair, I was trying to wash it out, and it started feeling really clumpy,’ she said.

‘And it started falling out. I could feel my hair coming out and going down my back, and you could hear it splashing in the water. It started just coming out in patches.’

Hannah’s voice started breaking as she tearfully recounted the rest of the mishap.

‘And then, the more I tried to wash the product out to make sure that it was gone, the more I felt like it was coming out,’ she added between sobs.

‘I didn’t realize how bad it was until I got out of the shower and I already knew it was really bad because I could see that the water wasn’t going down the drain anymore.

‘So I got out and put my towel on and I wiped off the mirror and you could see that the whole side was gone.’

At this point, Hannah called her roommate, Dana, and told her what was happening. Dana didn’t believe her at first, until she saw it for herself.

She then told Hannah to make sure all the product was gone, and the YouTuber went back into the shower for about an hour, running her hands through her hair and ‘getting the rest of the loose strands out’.

Hannah couldn’t bear to look at herself just yet, so she wrapped her head in a towel and flipped the two mirrors in her bedroom so she could avoid her reflection.

She tasked Dana to brush out the rest of her hair, and the rest of Hannah’s locks fell into a trash can.

After the shocking experience, Hannah reached out to a salon to inquire about getting extensions, but stylists told her that her hair was too short.

At this point, Hannah did have some hair left, including a significant patch of it, but the strands were damaged, and with the sides of her hair gone, she couldn’t salvage it.

She ended up asking the salon employees to shave the rest of her hair off, to match the shortest parts.

WHY HAIR RELAXERS SHOULDN’T BE USED ON BLEACHED HAIR

Hair relaxers such as the one Hannah used sometimes come with warnings not to use them on damaged hair. Some specify that the product shouldn’t be used on bleached hair.

Relaxers use chemicals to ‘relax’ natural curls and help strengthen the hair. Hannah was hoping the product would leave her hair straighter, so she would be able to stop using heat styling tools, such as a hair dryer and hair straightener, on her bleached hair.

However, the chemical process at play when a relaxer is used strips the hair of its natural oils, and is overall damaging.

Thus, bleached hair might be already too damaged to withstand it, which is why it is not recommended to use relaxers on bleached locks.

Losing her hair was emotionally painful for Hannah, who said she likes to express herself via her hair styles and colors.

‘Sometimes, things happen to us, and when they happen, you have to decide to learn from it and move forward,’ she said.

Her video has now been viewed more than four million times.

Hannah explained in a follow-up clip that the product she used was a drugstore-bought hair relaxer and conditioner.

She declined to name the specific product, which specified ‘do not use on damaged hair’.

‘I guess I just didn’t know how damaged my hair was until I used it,’ she added.

The YouTuber also explained she doesn’t intend to sue the company that made the product, because it doesn’t seem ‘worth pursuing’.
