Zara Tindall reveals how she ‘lives for making moments’ with her children

Zara Tindall reveals how she ‘lives for making moments’ with her children – plus the sport she hopes they’ll take up (and it’s not golf or horse riding!)

Zara Tindall has shared her hope that her three children will learn to play golf and the joint games that might ensue.

A guest on IMG Golf’s Opinion Matters podcast, the equestrian daughter of Princess Anne said it would be great if Mia, nine, Lena, four, and Lucas, one, ‘all knew how to swing a club’, so the family could enjoy rounds of golf together in the future.

Zara’s husband of 11 years, Mike Tindall, the former England Rugby captain, is himself a keen golfer.

She said: ‘So yeah it would be great if they all knew how to swing a club and you can do it together. Because, you know, that’s what you kind of live for isn’t it and making those moments together, being able to do them together is so much easier as well.

‘We can all be interested in the same things, that’s incredible.’

Zara, who won a silver medal as part of the British Equestrian team at the London Olympics in 2012, was self-deprecating when it came to her own game, and suggested her brood would soon be flying past their parents on the course.

Speaking to host Di Stewart, Zara said: ‘They’re all going to get better than us aren’t they? And I’ll be the mug at the back getting 15 shots, they’ll be waiting for me!’

Still, that isn’t to say that the royal is a complete newcomer to the sport.

Zara was in fact one of the participants in the Slingsby Golf Academy 2022, playing alongside Sky Sports journalist Anna Woolhouse, television personality Dr Zoe Williams and tennis coach Judy Murray.

Conceived with the hope of welcoming more women into the sport, the Golf Academy included six months of training with PGA Professionals and culminated in a competition.

The Tindalls continue to combine their passion for golf with their commitment to charity work as the hosts of an annual golf fundraiser, which last year brought together celebrities including Denise Van Outen, Brian McFadden and BBC presenter Dan Walker at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield.

With the ISPS Handa Championship professional golf tournament now underway, Mike is currently in Japan lending his support at PGM Ishioka Golf Club in Omitama.
