Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 breakfast show sheds nearly ONE MILLION listeners after millions were ordered to work from home due to the Covid pandemic


Zoe Ball has lostmillion listeners on her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show in the past year.

Despite attracting an impressive audience of 8.1 million before the coronavirus pandemic, latest figures show the presenter, 50, has suffered a drop in her audience.

It is thought that the reduction in popularity is down to an increased number of audience members working from home.

This has significantly lowered the amount of people tuning in to the radio during their daily commutes to and from work.

However, Zoe still holds the top spot of the most listened breakfast show in the UK, after taking over the coveted slot in 2019.

Zoe was the first ever female host of BBC Radio 1 Breakfast, as well as Radio 2’s Breakfast Show – launching her namesake show on the latter station in January of that year.

Statistics published by RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research) on Thursday show she is in good company since Greg James, Chris Evans and Roman Kemp have also seen their shows lose listeners.

Meanwhile, Global has enjoyed success as it grows its audience to a record-breaking 25.7 million weekly listeners, along with its share to 23.4 percent.

Heart scored its biggest ever audience of 10 million, which breaks a new record, while adding 662,000 new listeners to its assembly.

The station show with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden has celebrated being the biggest commercial breakfast programme in the UK with 4.1 million weekly listeners.

RAJAR explained that direct comparisons are difficult to make with May 2020’s figures, due to a new way of measuring its audiences.

Covering July to September 2021, the industry body incorporated smartphone data for the very first time in the system of methods.
