Two young brothers have reacted as only Australians can after spotting a large crocodile swimming at a nearby beach.

North Queensland siblings Jake and Joel were on a holiday with their dad hoping to have a swim at a popular beach when they spotted the deadly creature lurking offshore.

‘Well, it’s pretty cool. I don’t want to be in there, it’s better out on sand,’ Joel told Seven.

‘He looked a couple of metres long and not a big, big one but a pretty good sized one.’

The trio have been visiting Townsville from their home in Toowoomba after Jake and Joel finished school for the year.

They were headed for a water park off The Strand, a popular foreshore area, but Jake suggested he and his brother go for a swim in the ocean beforehand.

Thankfully, the boys spotted the two-metre crocodile before they jumped in the water.

‘I don’t think we will be going for a swim in the water now,’ Joel said.

Despite admitting seeing the creature in the wild was ‘pretty cool’, the brothers have no plans to tempt fate.

‘No, not today and maybe not tomorrow,’ Jake said when asked if he was going to go for a swim.

The two will now have a story they will never forget and a great tale to tell their friends when they get home.
