Florida diver tries to touch giant octopus and gets inked

A diver in Florida was inked in the face by a giant octopus after it swam away when he tried to touch it.

The funny footage filmed at Delray Beach, Florida shows the diver, known as Mario, swimming towards the octopus with his hand outstretched.

But as he tentatively reaches out to touch the octopus, it squirts him in the face with its ink and swims away before Mario can react.

The footage was filmed on Christmas Eve at 3pm.

Mario can be seen trying to touch the octopus but it is clear that the creature doesn’t want the attention.

The video shows the stillness underwater as Mario glides towards the octopus, which is partially camouflaged as it lays on the sea bed.

However, the octopus shatters the calm and flees rapidly as the diver approaches.

Before dashing away, the giant octopus manages to release its natural defence mechanism with its cloudy black ink covering Mario’s face.

To his credit, the diver does not panic as he is temporarily blinded by the octopus.

After mere seconds, the octopus disappeared from the video, leaving behind a cloud black ink in Mario's face

His eyes and face are protected by a pair of large black swimming goggles.

The octopus manages to completely disappear from the scene in just seconds in an astonishing display of speed.
