But just as the drone started to descend the eagle struck, sending it falling to the ground.

Mr Hatcher said: ‘So, I was out getting footage of Professor Creek, near Moab, UT, minding my own business, flying my drone up the creek.

‘I’d made my flight up the creek was bringing the drone back and I saw the golden eagle flying in its direction.

‘I’ll be honest, I ducked for cover because it was almost directly over my head. It landed about 8 feet in front of me.

‘The eagle flew off and I saw where it landed and watched him take off again and fly away. I am an animal lover and I especially like raptors.

‘I would have never flown in his area had I known he was there and I’m especially glad that he wasn’t harmed.’
