Half-naked man charges at officers with bloodied 12-inch kitchen knife after crashing his Jeep into police cruisers and setting them alight outside Queens NYPD precinct

  • Police shot the suspect and he fell into the fire he lit using an accelerant

A man, naked from the waist down, crashed his Jeep into a marked police cruiser outside a precinct before setting the two vehicles on fire and charging at officers with a 12-inch kitchen knife. 

The bizarre scene took place outside a Queens NYPD precinct and saw the man fall into the blaze when two officers opened fire on him, according to NYPD Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison.

The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Jarrell Davis, of Queens, was shot several times in the torso and leg, said police, adding that he is expected to survice in hospital.

The suspect is charged with arson, attempted arson, menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

No responding officers were injured but to were taken to hospital as a precaution. 

The incident took place in broad daylight at about 3 p.m outside the 111th Precinct in Bayside said Harrison.

Harrison told press that after crashing, the suspect poured liquid accelerant on both his Jeep and the police cruiser and set his own vehicle alight. 

This is when he allegedly charged at the officers with the 12-inch blade that was covered in blood despite police confirming that nobody at the precinct was stabbed. 

The knife also appeared to have a bullet hole right through it, according to a picture that police tweeted. 

The suspect, whose motive remains unclear, fell into the fire when officers shot him for charging with the knife. They then dragged him to safety. 

In a tweet, police asked people to avoid the area near Northern Boulevard and 215th Street due to an investigation.
