Nasa has spotted the galactic doppelganger of a much-loved children’s TV character from hit TV show The Muppets.
Beaker, the science obsessed flame-haired character from the programme, was ‘spotted’ in a land formation at the red planet’s south pole.
The image was captured by (HiRISE), an ultra-high-resolution camera that’s been looking at Mars in great detail since 2006.

The picture was spotted on the Red Planet’s southern pole by Nasa this week and scientists at the University of Arizona’s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory shared the image on Twitter.

‘While the global dust storm has obscured much of the surface, we’ve still been able to get some good images of the polar region (247 km above the surface).’
After a five-minute delay, the Nasa body then replied to its own tweet with an annotated image, placing Beaker alongside his lookalike.
The follow-up post then pointed out the remarkable likeness.
It said: ‘And today’s HiPOD offers up a nice dose of pareidolia as well!
‘#CannotUnsee.’

Pareidolia is the phenomenon where people see faces (or other familiar patterns) where there are’t any.
Beaker is a lab assistant to Dr Bunsen Honeydew of Muppet Labs.
The long-suffering character is often beaten and abused in the show and is even cloned on one occasion.
