Nutritionist reveals why kombucha cocktails AREN’T healthy

Kombucha drinks are popular beverages in a range of cafés and health food stores.

Now, Australian pubs have introduced kombucha cocktails, but they’re not as healthy as they may seem.

Sports nutritionist and dieititan, Peta Carige, told whimn.com.au that the hospitality industry is simply ‘cashing in’ on the craze.

‘People like to justify a negative health behaviour,’ she said, telling the website that smokers are more likely to take a multi-vitamin than those that don’t smoke.

‘I always tell people one shot is equivalent to a slice of white bread. So a cocktail with two shots and extra sugar is like having two slices of bread with butter on it,’ Peta said.

Although these cocktails are packed with natural sweeteners she believes that they are still going to give you a high amount of energy.

Luckily for us all Peta isn’t suggesting we all put down our drinks and never pick them back up but to enjoy them in moderation.
