Shannon Noll speaks of his struggle with depression

Shannon Noll has spoken about his struggle with depression.

Speaking on Thursday’s The Morning Show, the 42-year-old told host Larry Emdur that by touching on the topic in the lyrics of his songs he hopes he will help others.

‘(The figures) are getting worse and worse,’ he said.

‘It’s getting worse and worse’: Shannon Noll speaks about his struggle with depression after horrific back injury

‘A lot of my songs in the early days had a positive message and I want to continue that through.

‘One of the songs on the (fifth) album is about depression so I’d like to do something with that down the track. That’s (the figures) getting worse and worse.’

A country boy himself, Shannon went on to explain to Larry how depression is prevalent in the outback.

‘Definitely, mate,’ the artist told Larry, before going on to say: ‘Especially with farmers in drought times.’

In 2014, Shannon opened up on his struggle with depression to Woman’s Day, after a serious back injury two years prior.

The father-of-three was suffering from a recurring back problem which caused him to experience ‘excruciating’ pain and made carrying out his duties on the farm difficult.

‘I never understood the process of depression until then. I felt nothing but frustration, anger and fear,’ Shannon candidly told the publication.

The handsome crooner, who has been married to wife Rochelle since 1997, previously opened up on his struggles with depression and substance abuse, particularly in the wake of his father’s death in 2001.

Shannon pleaded guilty to drink-driving in 2005 after getting behind the wheel following a drinking session in the New South Wales town of Condoblin, where he grew up.

With his battles with alcohol and depression in mind, he and Rochelle made the decision at the time, to uproot their children – Cody, Blake and Sienna – and move back to Sydney.
