Sophie Monk reveals how much Bardot were paid

From singing and acting to modelling and reality television, Sophie Monk has worked hard in the entertainment industry.

But The Bachelorette star has confessed that her big break was far from glamorous.

The 38-year-old told news.com.au that at the height of the girl band Bardot’s fame when ‘people were breaking their arms in shopping malls over us’ they were paid just $25 a day.

Explaining why their wages were much less than minimum wage, Sophie said: ‘Our contracts were very different to what it would be today. We came out of nowhere’.

‘A lot of people whinge about that but it was my break. In the beginning you’ve got to do a lot of favours for free,’ she added.

Sophie’s bandmates included Tiffani Wood, Belinda Chapple, Sally Polihronas and Katie Underwood.

The five women went on to release a solo album and number one single Poison, as well as a self-titled clothing line.

Monk recalled the hype that surrounded the band before its demise in 2002.

‘We were working so hard. People were breaking their arms in shopping malls over us. I didn’t want that attention so young,’ she told News Corp.

‘My attitude was all very different. I didn’t crave it. It just came.’

After Bardot Sophie went on to have a successful solo singing career, before relocating to Hollywood in 2005 to try her luck at acting.

The busty actress starred in Date Movie and Click and also enjoyed a series of high profile relationships with Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden, Jason Statham, Kevin Connolly and Sam Worthington.

Earlier this month, she revealed that her Hollywood dream came to an end when an acquaintance swindled her out of everything she had earned.

‘Someone ripped off all my money,’ the Love Island host said. 

‘I let this person run my banking. You can’t sue because I said yes. I signed the papers without reading them.’

Sophie divulged that she lost ‘nearly everything – hundreds of thousands’ of dollars.
