Stephen Belafonte claims Mel B was behind the camera in sordid sex tapes

Stephen Belafonte has revealed the truth behind sordid sex tapes Mel B claims her ex was threatening to release during their ten-year marriage – insisting the Spice Girl was often behind the camera.

In part two of an exclusive interview with DailyMailTV, Belafonte also reveals the shocking depths of Mel’s alcohol and drug use and claims he filmed her snorting lines of cocaine in front of their children.

The 43-year-old businessman says his former wife went to great lengths to protect her public image while partying, having promiscuous sex and doing drugs – meanwhile his reputation is in tatters from the myriad of ‘horrific’ allegations of domestic violence and abuse she made against him.

‘I do not know who I was married to, at all. It is a person who had the capability of probably slitting my throat if it protected her as an addict,’ he said.

‘What she has said to protect her own image, to play the victim was nasty and horrific. I’m dumbfounded.’

Belafonte says it’s ‘disgusting’ how Mel reveals all about her cocaine use and her insatiable appetite for sex in her new book Brutally Honest.

‘She blames me for her cocaine use, she blames me for the sexual stuff, it’s just disgusting,’ he explains.

‘I don’t know why a person who cares about their daughters, who is girl power, would ever in a million years want this to be out there for your younger daughters to read.’

In the book, Mel talks of having a threesome – which she admits was her idea – with her husband and another woman early in their marriage.

But she claims she woke the next day in ‘shock’ when she recalled how Belafonte had filmed the encounter.

‘Remembering that it had been videoed I jolted awake, a video, a sex video,’ she wrote.

She added: ‘I felt as if I was falling in slow motion down a black hole like a little girl in a nursery rhyme.

‘What if the video gets leaked,’ I thought, “What have I done?”‘

In court, Mel used the existence of 64 sex tapes to claim Belafonte had drugged her and secretly filmed their steamy sessions in a bid to hold them over her head.

But defiant Belafonte, who has broken his silence after two years, hits back: ‘She said that I had sex tapes, she had the world thinking that I filmed pornography, you know, sex tapes of my wife without her knowing.

‘My wife was filming me. I want to show the videos of her filming me. She’s completely dressed and turns the video on herself and talks about, “hmm it’s so sexy” and continues filming me with another person having sex.’

By November 2017, as part of a mediation settlement, Mel claims in her book that she agreed to drop domestic violence charges against Belafonte if none of the sex tapes were played in open court.

Mel B released her new book, Brutally Honest on Tuesday, in which she tells of her 10-year marriage and claims Belafonte secretly filmed her having sex. Belafonte says the sex tapes were consensual and slammed his ex-wife for documenting her sex life and drug use in a book their daughters will read

Belafonte claims she was much more likely worried about the videos of her snorting cocaine in front of her kids would be aired.

During the divorce battle, their former nanny Lorraine Gilles claimed that she and Mel had a five-year sexual relationship that included three-ways with Belafonte.

Mel accused her husband of conspiring with German born Gilles, 27, and threatening to release the sex tapes.

But Belafonte calls the allegations ‘crazy’ and cites strict California laws against revenge porn.

‘I’d have to be crazy to even think about releasing any of the sex tapes publicly and why would I want to subject my daughters to that anyway?’ he said.

The movie producer also points out that if he was the controlling, dominant ‘monster’ in the marriage and he was conspiring with Gilles, then why did Mel convince the nanny to get a tattoo near her privates saying ‘Property of Mel B’.

Gilles is currently suing Mel for defamation after she branded her a ‘prostitute’ and ‘home-wrecker’ in court papers.

Belafonte admits that he did film some consensual sex tapes with Mel and he also filmed her when she was drunk or drugged up.

‘But there was a reason,’ he explains. ‘The videos were taken to give to her therapist. So Melanie would take accountability. Melanie does not take accountability for anything. If I were to say, “why were you doing cocaine in front of the kids?” She would say, “you’re yelling at me.” And I’d go, “I know I’m a little pi**ed off. You were doing cocaine in front of the kids,” and she would never deal with the underlying issue.’

He claims he wanted to show therapist Dr Charles Sophy that Mel was in a bad place.

Belafonte also shut down allegations that Mel was a prisoner in her marriage by claiming he caught her having an affair with actor Tamer Hassan in 2010

‘Not hidden videos, directly (to her). Videos where I’m acknowledging her and saying, why are you doing cocaine around the kids? Why are you drinking so much that you can’t stand up now? Why are your friends giving you all of these drugs.’

Belafonte says he enjoys a glass of Scotch whiskey but never did drugs with Mel. He says he left drug-taking behind in his youth.

‘I never did drugs with my wife,’ he insists. ‘We never had that relationship. We had drinks together. The drinking is bad. It’s the chemical imbalance of Melanie’s brain once drinking starts.’

Mel’s ex admits that during one blazing row he threatened to call Child Services on his wife if he ever caught her taking drugs in front of the kids again.

But he says when he asked Dr Sophy, what to do, he was advised against it.

‘Dr Sophy said you may lose your children and it’s a can of worms that you may open up, that you may regret,’ Belafonte recalled.

‘So I tried to work with our therapist who then prescribed Melanie with shots of Antabuse and other medicines where she could not take the drugs or alcohol.’

Texts submitted to the court during their case revealed how Mel agreed to take a daily dose of prescription drug Antabuse to tackle her alcoholism, which according to Dr Sophy, would prove she would be ‘safe’ around her kids.

Antabuse is a drug used in the treatment of chronic alcoholism by producing an acute sensitivity to ethanol (drinking alcohol), making the user vomit.

In her book Mel paints herself as a victim, a survivor of domestic abuse – a woman who turned to drink and drugs to numb the pain of an abusive marriage.

But Belafonte says Mel has been drinking and doing drugs her whole adult life, since she was 17 or 18-years-old, and certainly since the Spice Girls days.

And in another damning claim, Belafonte reveals that Mel’s long time friend Rusty Updegraff, who recently called her out over her drink and drug binges, told him that she had asked him for cocaine while in a hospital bed shortly after the birth of daughter Angel, now 11.

‘So you start learning all these things that it didn’t start with me.’ he said.

‘It’s been going on prior to me. And then I talked to some other people and people got in contact with me and it’s just crazy… to know that you don’t know who you’ve been with for 10 years. And I do not know who I was married to at all.’

Belafonte blames a ‘chemical imbalance’ in Mel’s brain for her problems with alcohol and recounts stories of how Mel would sometimes drink vodka shots during the day.

He said his wife wasn’t ’emotionally available’ for their children when she was drinking, but adds that she wasn’t a danger.

‘She wasn’t, you know, beating our children. She wasn’t starving them or locking them in a room,’ he said.

‘The biggest problem was just having our children around the craziness that came from Melanie when she would be doing her drugs and drinking.’

Belafonte is also keen to point out that far from being a prisoner in her 10-year marriage, he allegedly caught Mel cheating behind his back.

As for the violence, Belafonte says anybody who has met his wife knows she wouldn’t stand for it.

‘Melanie is a Leeds firecracker. Who is Melanie scared of, there was no fear,’ he said.

‘To be honest with you. I feel like Melanie is projecting… she needs me to be this horrible, abusive, controlling, piece of dog crap in order to justify the things that Melanie had going on in our relationship.’

He added that they lived their life in the public, always visible, so he questions where are the witnesses who saw the abuse.

‘Listen, we had a reality show, we were on Instagram. We had people in our house every day. We had meetings and Melanie was flying by herself. I was running a restaurant, I was making movies, I was doing things and what Melanie described in her book is what real domestic violence looks like.

‘She took a snapshot of it and tried to insert it into her life and it doesn’t fit well.’

Reps for Mel B did not respond to DailyMail.com’s requests for comment.

Despite their divorce being final in December 2017, trying to settle complicated issues between them mostly over children and money, dragged on for another nine months and the warring couple didn’t settle until August this year.

Earlier this month they finally reached an agreement that brought to an end their vicious battle.

The pair has been ordered to stay 200 yards away from each other.

And Mel must cough up $350,000 for Belafonte’s legal fees and pay him an additional $5,000 a month in child support for Madison.

Belafonte is desperate to move on with his life and spend more time with his daughters.

He has biological daughter Madison, seven, with Mel but he also helped raise Mel’s daughter with Eddie Murphy, Angel, 11, from birth. He also has another daughter Gisele from a previous relationship.

His only regret is not being able to see Angel – and for that he blames his ex.

‘I lost was my stepdaughter and I couldn’t see her because I didn’t have parental rights. And that hurt me the most. What type of mother does that? She rips them away. For what reason?’
