Tottenham will feel more pressure than Juventus – Allegri

  • Juventus went two goals ahead in the first ten minutes of Wednesday’s game
  • But Spurs fought back and managed to level up the game ahead of second leg
  • Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen bagged for the visiting side on Wednesday
  • Massimiliano Allegri said: ‘They will probably be under more pressure than us’

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri believes the pressure will be on Tottenham to reach the last eight of the Champions League.

The Italian champions stormed into a 2-0 lead during Wednesday night’s last-16 tie at the Allianz Stadium, courtesy of a Gonzalo Higuain double — first through a volley and then from the spot.

But Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side fought back, with Harry Kane rounding Gialuigi Buffon and scoring before Christian Eriksen fired in a free-kick under the Juventus wall.

The game ended 2-2. Spurs have an advantage for next month’s second-leg at Wembley, courtesy of the away goals rule.

And Allegri, who ended up ranting at the Italian media in his post-match press conference, believes the onus will be on Spurs to go through to the quarter-finals.

He said: ‘Tottenham reacted and we made some mistakes, especially with the ball out. We didn’t have enough men at the front and we had some difficulties.

‘We were all aware that we are in the knockout stages, we played against a physical and technical side. We will have to be very good in London to go through.

‘Football gives and it takes from you. We shouldn’t be depressed. If somebody thought Juventus would win 4-0 then that was never in our thinking. We have to be respectful.

‘We are going to London with a tie and we will play a final and they will probably be under more pressure than us.

‘Juventus has never been favourite in the last 16, so we had 50 per cent possibilities before the match and 50 per cent after.’

Spurs and Juventus face each other in their second-leg on March 7.
