FACE CLOTHS

When removing your make up at the end of the day there’s no need to be using cheap wipes that are bad for the environment and harsh on your skin.

Santé Makeup Removers or microfibre make up remover wipes, like Face Halo, only need water to remove your make up, oil and dirt with ease.

Another option that you could invest in are face cloths that usually need some form of face wash or cleanser to help you get off the days grime.

As long as you treat them well they can be used for years and only need to be put in the washing machine to clean them.

HOMEMADE DEODORANTS

For many the idea of making your own deodorant sounds scary, fearing that you won’t find out that it hasn’t worked until it’s too late.

According to many people online one tried and tested recipe is a tablespoon of shea butter, a teaspoon of baking soda and a few drops of essential oils then let harden in the fridge.

This will cut the cost of your hygiene regime a surprising amount, but if you are still daunted by the idea there are many natural deodorant companies out there, such as Australian No Pong. Their deodorant costs a mere $5.95.

REMOVE PRODUCTS WITH MICRO BEADS

Have a look through your beauty cupboards, are there any products in there with those pesky micro beads in them?

Microbeads can be found in some facial scrubs, toothpaste and body wash, but they may also be in lipstick, sunscreen, deodorant and other care products.

These microbeads are actually tiny pieces of plastic that later end up in the oceans and are swallowed by marine life which has resulted many countries banning them entirely.

If you do own products with this ingredient remove them entirely and replace them with more sustainable alternatives from companies such as LUSH.

To know whether your products have them, look for ingredients such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

MULTI-PURPOSE SOAPS

A great way to reduce your mark on the planet is by cutting out the number of items you use each day.

One way to do this is by finding products that have multiple uses, which will mean that at the end of the day you will be throwing less materials in the bin.

A multi-use liquid soap, or bar, is a great way to do this which also means you have more space on your counter top for more exciting things.

One product that fits the bill is Dr Bronner’s Liquid Castille Soap as it can be used as a face and body wash as well as a cleaning liquid.

PANTRY STAPLES

Coconut oil has been a surprising holy grail in many beauty cupboards, and it’s easy to see why.

The oil can be used as a make up remover, a hair mask and shaving cream, just to name a few.

Another pantry staple is bi carb soda, which is a great tool to use if you are after a natural way to whiten your teeth or make a face mask.

These items are also great examples of one product being able to be used for multiple things.
