Thrifty shoppers flock to ‘gone past best’ warehouse

Thrifty shoppers are flocking to a warehouse which sells food which has ‘gone past its best’ for less than half of its original price.

The unique store, called Roger’s Wholesale in Plymouth, Devon, has enticed excited customers with cheap deals and they have visited the warehouse in huge numbers.

More than 60 pallets stacked with food – which is still perfectly good to eat – have flown off the shelves.

Mark King, managing director of the store, said their top sellers over the weekend included crisps, McVities digestive biscuits, Coke Zero, Easter eggs and pasta.

A box of crunch Cheetos is also on sale for £5

The store is selling boxes of Cheetos containing 30 packets of crisps for just £5 – which equates to just 17p a packet

A 30x30g box full of Crunchy Cheetos or Cheetos Twisted Flaming Hot crisps costs just £5 – meaning each packet is less than 17p.

Meanwhile, a box containing 200 100g sachets of Branston brown sauce is up for grabs for £3 – meaning each sachet costs less than 2p each.

A notice on its Facebook page read: ‘We are all working so hard to bring new items to the shop floor and restock some others.

‘We still have lots more to come and a video update soon. You can find us at Unit 2, Burrington Business Park, Burrington Way, Plymouth, Devon PL5 3LX.’

Mr King told the Plymouth Herald: ‘We’ve got 10 pallets of chocolate coming this week too – people seem to be really happy so that’s what matters most.

‘It’s all products which have gone past their use by and sell by dates not their best by – that’s the difference. It’s all perfectly fine.’

The store is open seven days a week and sells popular brands including Nando’s, Kellogs, Coca-Cola and Walkers Crisps.

It opened on 9am on Saturday morning and Mr King added that it has been ‘manic’.
