- She’s one of many sharing the ‘icks’ about their jobs on TikTok
A bottle shop worker has revealed the one thing customers do that drives staff members crazy – and almost every Aussie is guilty of it at some time in their lives.
Pearl, from Sydney, hates when she asks young people for ID and they try to act older than they are and say ‘OMG, I haven’t been asked for ID in ages’.
‘You’ve been 18 for a year, that’s it, calm the f*ck down and show me your ID,’ the frustrated employee said.

Pearl Cheshire (left and right) hates when she asks young people for ID and they try to act older than they are and say ‘OMG I haven’t been asked for ID in ages’. ‘You’ve been 18 for a year, that’s it, calm the f*ck down and show me your ID,’ the frustrated employee said
‘Massive pet peeve is when I ask someone for ID and they say “OMG I haven’t been asked for ID in ages” or “do you really need to see my ID?” Pearl said on TikTok.
‘You get their ID and they are literally like 19,’ she laughed.
The worker explained that she doesn’t understand why people act so shocked, as if someone looks under 25 she will ask to check their ID.
Although you only have to be 18 to buy alcohol, New South Wales law dictates that anyone who appears to be under 25 may need to show proof of age.
‘They always seemed so shocked that I ask them, ummm you’re in a bottle shop what did you expect?’ Pearl asked.
Other alcohol sellers agreed, saying 19 year old’s are their ‘biggest peeve working in liquor’.
‘Mate, you’re practically a fetus, gimme that ID!’ one woman said.
‘Lol they act like they are 30 and I’ve just asked them to prove they are 18,’ Pearl laughed.
Many people above 25 admitted they miss the days of getting asked for ID, and love the ‘confidence boost’ it gives them if they do get asked.
‘Me getting sad because I’m old these days and don’t get asked for ID. My local knowing I get sad and asking to cheer me up,’ one woman joked.

‘I say this at 27 just because nobody has bothered to ask me since I was 21 and asking for verification makes me feel good,’ another wrote.
‘I’m 26 and still enjoy it, never know when will be the last time,’ another commented.
Pearl said she sometimes asks people over 25 for fun to give them a compliment.
‘I asked a lady the other day she was my age, so 37, but she looked so young she walked out with the biggest head ever,’ she said.
