‘The sign of a psychopath’: Twitter users are horrified by Worst Cooks in America contestant who cut straight through a whole avocado – including the PIT

  • The moment occurred in a 2015 episode but is earning renewed attention after a screengrab was shared on Twitter
  • Kortni Montgomery, then 25, was surprised that it was so hard to cut through an avocado — but she cut through the pit, too
  • People are baffled and calling it ‘stupid’ and ‘hard to see’
  • Others are just impressed by how sharp the knife must have been

Avocado lovers are confused, horrified, and — in spite of themselves — a bit impressed by how one TV cooking show contestant sliced straight through an avocado, pit and all.

The bewildering chopping technique appeared on the Food Network show Worst Cooks in America, when contestant Kortni Montgomery, then 25, was cutting the green fruit for a recipe.

Though the episode originally aired back in 2015, a Twitter user saw it for the first time this week and shared the odd moment online, where thousands of aghast commenters — including Chrissy Teigen — weighed in.

Huh? Twitter users are confused after catching sight of this screengrab from a 2015 episode of Worst Cooks in America in which a contestant cuts straight through an avocado

While facing off against the other ‘worst cooks,’ Kortni used her knife to slice straight through a whole avocado, working the knife right through the pit.

But it was the customer service rep’s first time preparing an avocado, and she explained: ‘I had no idea it would be so hard to cut the avocado.’

On March 15, author Dianna E. Anderson watched the episode and was shocked by the moment. She shared a screengrab on Twitter, writing: ‘I’m watching Worst Cooks In America and one of them cut and avocado like this and lord help me.’

Tens of thousands of people liked the tweet, including Chrissy Teigen — who retweeted it with the words: ‘oh my god.’

Others chimed in in horror, too.

‘This is absolutely horrible,’ wrote one. A second added: ‘As a Mexican I can just be like…..’

‘This is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen,’ said yet another.

‘My reaction is whhyyyy. But I was 23 the first time I was shown how to peel and chop fresh garlic and avocados were a couple years later. I try to remember I used to be clueless. But this is hard to see,’ wrote another.

Still, others couldn’t believe Kortni pulled it off, saying that she must be quite strong and the knife must be incredibly sharp.

‘On one hand, that’s an impressively sharp knife…’ wrote one.

‘Let’s take a moment to appreciate the brute strength it took to cut through that avocado seed,’ wrote another.

‘I’m both appalled and impressed,’ said a third.

‘The real question here is, what kinda knife they using?’ asked yet another, while one more commenter tweeted:

Kortni, meanwhile, did learn a thing or two from the show. She told the Houston Chronicle: ‘It’s changed me because it made me more comfortable in the kitchen. It took me out of my comfort zone. Now I’m actually OK with using the oven and the stove.

‘[The chefs who host the show] teach you how to do everything, even something as simple as holding a knife,’ she added.
