Instead, Emilia said she prioritises good skincare, clever makeup and nightly facial massage to ensure her skin looks and feels its best:

‘I kind of want to do all I can in taking care of my skin. It’s a form of self-care as well -I’m choosing to put the energy into making sure I’m looking good,’ she told the publication.

Each evening, Emilia will engage in a facial massage before she goes to sleep.

Facial massage has gathered pace as a skincare trend in recent years, with everyone from the Duchess of Sussex to supermodel Cindy Crawford claiming they are a fan of the technique.

Founder of Face Gym Inge Theron said there is a simple reason why facial massage is so good for your skin: stimulation.

‘Over 40 muscles make up the scaffolding of the face. And just like the muscles in the body, the more you move them, the more lifted, tightened and toned they become,’ she told Glamour.

‘Any time you can fit facial exercises into your day is great. I tend to do it morning or evening as part of my skincare routine, that way I get the added benefits of really working products into my skin, too.’

If you’re in a rush, simply conduct a two-minute massage of your skin in the evening with your products and apply them slowly, taking time to push them into the skin, rather than just slapping them on your face.

She said because she had a mum who worked in beauty, she was taught from a very young age that you absolutely have to cleanse, tone and moisturise.

The 32-year-old loves Clinique’s new iD Dramatically Different Moisturizing BB-Gel, which she said works perfectly because she is ‘lazy’ and so loves the fact that she can just apply it and forget about it.

‘The BB thing is like my secret weapon; as soon as I tried it out, I was like oh, this is my vibe – this is so my vibe,’ she said.

Lastly, Emilia (pictured) revealed how 'good skin' is the conerstone of no-makeup-makeup - she starts with that before applying a slick of two different mascaras

‘Like I said, my mum worked in skincare; so from like the age of 10 I cleansed, toned and moisturised twice a day, every day. I could have a big night out and I will still wake up the next morning with clean skin,’ Emilia said.

A typical look for the actress will see her pair clear skin with minimal mascara and a striking red lip.

Her go-to mascaras are Dolce & Gabbana The One mascara for elongating her lashes, Hourglass Caution Extreme mascara which gives ‘separation and drama’.
