American superstar Caeleb Dressel takes gold in the 50m freestyle as the fastest man in the world in water storms to victory by half a second but Team GB’s Ben Proud misses out on a medal with a fifth-place finish

Caeleb Dressel, the fastest man in the world in water, stormed to gold in the 50m freestyle – finishing 0.48 seconds ahead of second place Florent Manadou.

The American superstar has now won four gold medals in Tokyo after victories in the 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and the 4X100m freestyle.

Dressel completed the race in just 21.07 seconds, narrowly missing out on a world record. Team GB’s Ben Proud missed out on a medal as he finished fifth, just 0.15 seconds off the podium.
