Ana de Armas looked incredible as she made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut, along with another Spanish sensation, musical guest Karol G.
The Cuban-born actress, 34, began her opening monologue in Spanish, before quipping, ‘Just kidding. I speak English. But I didn’t when I first got to the U.S.’ and joking she had learned the language by watching Friends on TV.

It was also the first SNL appearance for Karol G, 32, who thrilled the audience with her hits Mientras Me Curo del Cora and Tus Gafitas, and also appeared in one of the skits alongside Ana.

Ana started out her monologue by opening up about her Cuban roots.
‘I was born in Cuba, came to America when I was 26, and I learned English the way everyone who comes to this country does, by watching “Friends.”‘
‘Who would have thought the best English tutor would have been Chandler Bing. Look at me now, could I be any better at English?’ she said, mimicking Chandler’s sarcastic tone.
The Deep Water star revealed that it’s been a great year for her, and shared that she will become an official citizen of the United States in three weeks.
‘This has been a magical year. Not only I was nominated for an Oscar, but in three weeks, I’m going to officially become an American citizen. I am proud to become a citizen because when I moved here, everyone was so welcoming.’
She then recalled working with Robert de Niro on Hands of Stone in 2016, and how he surprised her father one day while visiting Cuba.
‘When I did my first movie in the U.S. I got to work with Robert de Niro, and one day on set, he told me, “I may be going to Cuba soon, and if I do, I’ll say hello to your family.”‘
‘He asked me for their phone number. I completely forgot about it, and one day I get a phone call from my dad, he’s hysterical, and I go, “Dad, what’s wrong?” and he goes, “Robert de Niro just came to visit me at work!”‘

In the first skin Ana played a gorgeous game show participant named Carmen, who was on the show with her husband, Matt.
However the duo distracted the host – played by Kenan Thompson – and other participants, who thought Carmen was way out of her husband’s league in terms of looks.
‘I’m sorry. I have a bad ear for accents. Sounds like you said that Matt’s your husband,’ the host asked, confused.
‘I did. We’re married.’
The host then proceeded to find out that Matt was not wealthy and actually worked in the food industry.
‘I’m a taste tester at purina dog chow,’ Matt shared, further confusing everyone, who thought Carmen was with him for the money.
‘He tries new dog foods to tell them if it’s too, like, spicy. You know, because the dogs can talk,’ Carmen responded.
Enlisting some help: Ana was joined by musical guest Karol G for one of the skits
Fluent: She played a Spanish-speaking student in a Spanish class, where she confused the teacher, Mikey Day, whose Spanish was not that advanced
Adios! Correction: Ana and her brother went on to correct the teacher multiple times, until he left to use the restroom
Native speakers! The actress was then joined by Karol, who rocked bright pink hair, as both of them decided to take over and teach the students themselves

‘I’m from Victorian times. I watched my parents die in a boat,’ one said.
‘That’s okay. My daddy’s a prisoner of war, and tragically, I have glasses,’ another one added.
‘That’s okay. My mama is dead, we buried her in the church graveyard,’ Ana added.
‘That’s okay. I don’t know my birthday because I’m a run away slave,’ yet another one replied.
The narrator then compared the film to the new Barbie movie: ‘Do they have pink corvettes? Nope, boyfriends, no way. Did all their family members die of vague old-timey diseases? Absolutely.’

SNL after party: The next skit saw the SNL writers discuss one of their afterparties, and wonder if some of them had too much to drink
Flashbacks: When Ana walked into the room, one of them had a flashback of their conversation, where she turned him down
Awkward: ‘So like are your thoughts usually in Spanish or English?’ he asked her in the flashback. ‘Can you stop like yelling in my mouth?’ she replied

However the girls continued to say mildly uncomfortable things, until Spicy finally gave up and called it a day.
