Annastacia Palaszczuk flew on private plane to Rockhampton Museum of Art as south-east QLD flooded

EXCLUSIVE: Annastacia Palaszczuk sips champagne at an art gallery at the SAME time her state was being battered by deadly floods

  • Annastacia Palaszczuk visited opening of art museum
  • Premier left southeast Queensland during bad flooding
  • She caught private flight owned by tech millionaire

Annastacia Palaszczuk took a private flight to visit the opening of a museum at the same time deadly floods were battering Queensland last year.

The premier sipped on champagne and mingled with guests at the opening of the $36.5million Rockhampton Museum of Art on February 25.

She made the trip as the south-east part of her state and northern NSW were enduring one of their worst flooding events in history that would kill 22 people.

At least one resident had been found dead after their car was swept away in floodwaters while 10 were missing in Queensland when Ms Palaszczuk made the trip.

Ministerial register of interests have since come to light showing the premier travelled to Rockhampton on a private flight owned by millionaire Bevan Slattery.

Liberal MP Jarrod Bleijie said Ms Palaszczuk had ‘lost the plot’ and that she had ‘no regard for the issues that matter most to Queenslanders.’

‘Everyone was talking about the deluge of rain that was coming,’ he said on Friday.

‘And the premier then chose, accepted a gift from a millionaire to jump on his private jet, drink champagne and fly to an art gallery.’

Mr Slattery is a tech entrepreneur responsible for founding cloud data centre iSeek, fibre optics business Pipe Networks and broadband company Superloop.

His net worth is estimated to be $557million and he is regarded as one of the wealthiest people in Queensland.

Ms Palaszczuk was photographed brushing shoulders with high-profile guests including Rod Pilbeam – the grandson of RMOA founder and former mayor Rex.

Her partner Dr Reza Adib was also in attendance and was pictured posing for pictures alongside the premier.

Ms Palaszczuk was labelled a ‘part time premier’ in June last year for her habit of attending glamorous events.

The pair went to the Logies Awards on the Gold Coast, and attended the premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’ biopic.

In August, she cancelled a cabinet meeting to spend time on a yacht at the Hamilton Island Race Week.

Ms Palaszczuk had told parliament in the lead-up to her Rockhampton trip that ‘severe weather continues to pose a serious threat to our state’.

A woman’s body had also been found after her car was swept away by floodwaters at Belli Park while emergency services were looking for 10 missing residents.

‘This is indeed a tragedy. Please, I can’t stress this enough, don’t take any risks,’ Ms Palaszczuk.

‘This has the potential to be a significant rainfall event for south-east Queensland. In southeast Queensland, some areas will also see a month’s worth of rain.’

A spokesperson from her office told Daily Mail Australia the premier still went on her trip despite the wild weather as it had been organised two weeks beforehand.

‘Art is an important part of regional tourism and culture and the Rockhampton Museum of Art is host to one of Australia’s best regional art collections,’ they said.

‘At all times the Premier acted on the advice of Emergency Services.

‘As stated in the Premier’s published diaries, on the Friday the Premier chaired two weather briefings with relevant ministers and emergency services via teleconference as well as held a separate teleconference with the Emergency Services Minister.

‘The Premier chaired seven weather briefings the Saturday as weather further deteriorated.’

At least two days before Ms Palaszczuk flew to Rockhampton emergency services had recovered the body of a woman and were searching for 10 missing people.
