Anthony Weiner asks judge to delay sexting sentencing

Anthony Weiner has asked a Manhattan judge to delay the sentencing date in the case against him for sexting with a minor by nearly a month.

Just three weeks before Weiner’s September 8 sentencing, the disgraced Congressman asked Manhattan Federal Judge Denise Cote to push the court date back to October 6.

In a letter to Cote, his lawyer, Arlo Devlin-Brown, said that Weiner’s attorneys need more time to prepare a sentencing recommendation ‘that best addresses the need for continuing treatment’, according to the New York Post.

Weiner, who faces up to 27 months in prison, has spent the summer in his Manhattan apartment with his five-year-old son, Jordan, who he’s regularly seen dropping off and picking up from day camp.

Just three weeks before Weiner’s September 8 sentencing, he asked that the court date be moved to October 6

On Thursday the 52-year-old and his son Jordan were spotted walking hand-in-hand through the Chelsea neighborhood of New York.

Jordan was wearing his summer camp T-shirt, while Weiner dressed casually in green shorts, an orange shirt, sneakers and a Mets cap.

The former politician could face up to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty in May to transferring obscene material to a minor.

While the sentencing for such a crime can be up to ten years in prison, Weiner is likely to face far less because of the plea deal he took earlier this year.

DailyMail.com revealed in September the disgraced Congressman had been exchanging sexually-charged messages and explicit photos with a 15-year-old high school student in North Carolina.

The exchanges began in January of last year after the teenager reached out to Weiner on Twitter, and continued through late spring.

Weiner was 51 and still married to Huma Abedin when he sent the texts and images to the minor female, during a time when his primary responsibility was the care of his son Jordan, now 5, while Abedin was on the campaign trail with Hillary Clinton.

Abedin filed for divorce on the same day that Weiner, who is still wearing his wedding band, pleaded guilty to charges he sexted a minor.

The pair’s divorce hearing is set for September 13 after being moved from an earlier June date.

Since revelations were made about his sexting with a minor last year, residents in his Union Square building say he’s become unpopular.

Residents told the New York Post earlier this month that he’s lost contact with many people in the building and wears earbuds to the gym, where ‘nobody speaks to him’.

‘Nobody speaks to him. He is truly ostracized,’ a source told the newspaper. ‘People won’t even get on the elevator with him.’

Many of Weiner’s neighbors voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election and blame him for her loss.

While investigating Weiner’s relationship with the minor, federal authorities seized a computer from the couple’s Manhattan apartment and found emails that they believed might be relevant to the separate investigation into Clinton’s private email server.

Just days away from the November 2016 presidential election, the FBI made a public announcement about the new development, despite the fact that they had previously said the case was closed.

Clinton has also blamed the last-minute emails scandal for her losing the election to now-President Donald Trump.
