The parents of the late actor Anton Yelchin have come to a settlement with car company Fiat Chrysler, nearly two years after the 27-year-old Star Trek star was crushed to death by his recalled SUV.
Yelchin was on his way to an audition on June 19, 2016, when he got out of his SUV momentarily – perhaps to check his mail.
Investigators say the actor thought his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was in park, but it was actually in neutral.
The SUV started to roll down the steep driveway – hitting Yelchin and pinning him against a security gate.

Just weeks before his tragic death, the actor’s 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was recalled for an issue where drivers confused the neutral gear for the parked gear
Yelchin is believed to have died almost immediately, from blunt traumatic asphyxia, but his body wasn’t discovered until hours later, when his worried friends came by to check on him.
It was later revealed that Yelchin’s SUV had been recalled weeks earlier for a defect that caused drivers to confuse the neutral and park gears. He had gotten a written notice of the recall a week before the fatal accident.
About two months after the tragedy, Yelchin’s parents, former Russian figure skating pair Irina Korina and Victor Yelchin, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the SUV’s maker, Fiat Chrysler.

At a press conference to announce their lawsuit in August 2016, both Irina and Victor broke down in tears speaking about their son.
‘Anton was our only son and was a remarkable human being,’ said Victor Yelchin said. ‘He was very modest, very simple, very honest, generous, loving.’
‘It is wrong, it is against nature when parents bury (their) own child.’
On Thursday, TMZ reported that the family have reached a confidential settlement with the company.
It’s unclear how much money they received in the lawsuit.
At the time of his death, Yelchin’s career was just starting to take off, with a blockbuster gig in JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot and lauded performances in indie films such as Like Crazy.
