AOC leads critics demanding inquiry into how Jeffrey Epstein hanged himself on suicide watch

On Saturday morning Jeffrey Epstein was found in a state of cardiac arrest shortly before 7:30am with injures to his neck, alluding to an apparent death by hanging

Billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein allegedly committed suicide in his Manhattan jail cell on Saturday morning just 24 hours after a New York court unsealed 2,000 pages of new documents that implicated a number of high-profile men in his sex trafficking scandal.

The former financier, 66, was said to be under constant CCTV surveillance 24 hours a day at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Manhattan after he was hospitalized following an unsuccessful suicide attempt two weeks ago.

The nature and timing of Epstein’s death has prompted widespread speculation, with many demanding a thorough investigation be carried out to determine just how the accused sex-trafficker was able to hang himself after supposedly being placed on suicide watch.

Leading the charge was Democratic Congressional freshman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who demanded, ‘We need Answers. And lots of them,’ in a tweet on Saturday morning.

Thousands of others have since echoed the call and aired their own suspicions over Epstein’s untimely demise.

‘I agree with AOC,’ declared Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz.

‘Chairman @RepJerryNadler should prioritize a Judiciary investigation into how Jeffrey Epstein died in federal custody (in Nadler’s own neighborhood!) over the Kavanaugh confirmation (which already happened), and the Russia Hoax (which never happened).’

New York Senator and presidential hopeful Kirsten Gillibrand said she’s been to the Metropolitan Correctional Center where Epstein committed suicide.

‘I’ve been in the facility because it’s also where we hold terror suspects,’ she said at the Everytown for Gun Safety Action in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday.

‘It should be reviewed,’ she added.

The Democratic senator said her preference would have been for Epstein to face justice.

‘I think the crimes that were alleged against him were so deeply troubling. To have allegations of child trafficking, sexual abuse, sexual assault. Those are every hard things, I imagine, to live with,’ she remarked of the allegations against Epstein. ‘We would have preferred, obviously, for him to face justice.’

Epstein had been prison awaiting trial over charges of sexually trafficking minors, to which he’d pleaded not guilty.

The financier – who once boasted high-profile friends including Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton and President Trump – was arrested on July 6, accused of arranging to have sex with dozens of underage girls at his residences in New York City and Florida between 2002 and 2005.

On Saturday morning he was found in a state of cardiac arrest shortly before 7:30am with injures to his neck, alluding to an apparent death by hanging.

The shocking discovery came just two weeks after he’d been rushed to hospital under police guard on July 24, having been discovered semi-conscious on the floor of his prison cell in the fetal position.

‘He reportedly tried to kill himself two weeks ago. And is allowed to finish the job now? Bulls**t,’ added MSNBC host Joe Scarborough.

Other agreed, with political commentator Tony Schwartz adding, ‘[The idea that] Jeffrey Epstein could commit suicide on suicide watch defies belief.

‘There are many powerful men who wanted him dead, and their secrets to die with him. Epstein epitomized the sickness in the souls of so many men.’

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar also thinks there should be a congressional investigation into both Epstein’s crimes and his suicide.

‘I don’t think this suicide should be used to just say, Well, this is overnight, the bad guy died. I think there were other bad people involved in this,’ said Klobuchar, who’s a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which oversees the Justice Department and Bureau of Federal Prisons.

‘It really bothers me that, I would say star witness and creepiest defendant, no longer can testify,’ she said of the Epstein case during an appearance at the Everytown for Gun Safety Action rally on Saturday.

‘I think his crimes were horrendous. But I don’t think this suicide should have happened. And mostly I still want to get to the bottom of this,’ she added.

Klobuchar add that Congress look into ‘all of the connections that this man had. And who is involved in this because this was a traffic king.’

‘This was trafficking, sex trafficking, and it appears there were a number of people involved,’ she added.

The billionaire’s death comes just one day after the court unsealed more than 2,000 pages of documents detailing the lurid inner workings of his alleged sex trafficking operation.

On Friday morning, a federal appeals court unsealed the explosive documents pertaining to a 2015 lawsuit that Virginia Roberts Giuffre had filed against Epstein’s associate, socialite Ghislaine Maxwell.

Giuffre claimed Epstein and Maxwell kept her as a ‘sex slave’ in the early 2000s, whilst she was underage.

The unsealed papers – which made international news on Friday – implicated a number of high-profile men in sex scandals.

In a May 3, 2016 deposition, Giuffre alleged that she was trafficked by the pair to have sex with and provide erotic massages for politicians and affluent businessmen.

Giuffre claimed that she was ‘instructed’ by Maxwell to have sex with both two high powered Democrats – former Senate Majority George Mitchell and former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, who have since denied the allegations.

‘Jeffrey Epstein ‘hanged’ himself despite being on 24/7 suicide watch (all objects that could be used to commit suicide removed) as well as constant CCTV surveillance and lights on,’ tweeted Paul Joesph Watson. ‘Move along, nothing to see here.’

A lawyer for one of Epstein’s victims warned officials after his first suicide attempt that the defendant was at risk of being murdered by ‘powerful people’ in jail, urging them to transport him to a more secure facility.

Spencer Kuvin said he believed a ‘hit’ had been put out on Epstein to prevent him from implicating a number of powerful people complicit in his scheme, adding that he would likely be killed long before he could appear at trial.

‘There’s no doubt in my mind that no jail will protect you when there’s powerful people that want to reach you – wherever you are,’ Kuvin said.

‘I question whether or not it was a true suicide attempt that Mr Epstein was involved in in jail or whether or not there may be some powerful people who just don’t want him to talk.’

In a statement, Metropolitan Correctional Center told DailyMail.com that the FBI is now launching an investigation into Epstein’s death.
