Apple is reportedly releasing its ‘biggest’ iOS update in the company’s history, which is predicted to include new AI-powered features for the iPhone.
The company is expected to announce the iOS 18 update at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, which will incorporate large language models (LLMS) and generative AI in iWork apps.
Some of the predicted software updates are a revised version of Siri and the Messages app, which are said to be powered by advanced AI.
Apple is likely to release the beta version of the iOS 18 update in July of this year, with a general release slated for September 2024.

Apple has yet to officially confirm what will be included in the new iOS 18 system, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported the upcoming operating system is ‘ambitious and compelling.’
The update is expected to include a revised version of Siri that uses AI and LLMs to give more intelligent and accurate responses.
The Message app is also set to see its own new features that are said to ‘field questions and auto-complete sentences.’
Apple Music saw a redesign with the new iOS 17, allowing for collaborative playlists like those offered by Spotify.
However, Gurman has predicted that iOS 18 will let users create ‘auto-generated playlists’ that use AI to create recommendation song lists.
The tech may also be added to Xcode – which enables users to develop, test and distribute apps – so developers can ‘write new applications more quickly.’

‘I’m told that the new operating system is seen within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates — if not the biggest — in the company’s history,’ Gurman wrote.
‘With that knowledge, Apple’s developers conference in June should be pretty exciting.’
The redesigned operating system may be Apple’s answer to a slump in iPhone 15 sales that saw a four percent drop.
Apple is behind the curve when it comes to generative AI, falling short two years after ChatGPT became a trailblazer for other Big Tech companies, including Microsoft and Google – both of whom introduced their own AI services.
‘Starting with generative AI, Apple’s tools — when they launch — will come nearly two years after ChatGPT began to take the world by storm, about a year after Amazon announced its revamped Alexa and about a year and a half after Microsoft and Google debuted their new services. Even for Apple, that’s quite a miss,’ Gurman said in his Power On newsletter.
‘Long story short: Apple is way behind in AI and it’s a major risk for a company that considers itself the top innovator in consumer technology.’
There is speculation that Apple is working on an ‘Apple GPT’ AI bot, also known as ‘Ajax,’ people familiar with the matter told Gurman.
Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a conference call that there are still a ‘number of issues that need to be sorted,’ adding that Apple will be adding AI to its products in the future, but on a ‘very thoughtful basis.’
