ARIA Awards 2023: Awkward moment country music stars take to the stage drunk and reveal they’re going to have a ‘root’ after the event

Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley let loose at the 37th annual ARIA Awards on Wednesday night as they took to the stage drunk on champagne.

The music duo, who have been married since 2013, were deep in their cups by the time they were called up to present the award for Best Blues & Roots Album.

Stumbling onto stage together, the pair could barely stop giggling and smiling as they attempted to announce the category’s nominations and subsequent winner.

‘It’s so lovely to be here tonight. I’ve had a bit too much champagne,’ Brooke, 42, began as she leaned against her husband.

Adam, 41, quickly cut in, saying: ‘I can’t believe they’ve got us presenting something with the word ‘roots’ in it. We’re trying to be mature, but I’m not.’

It was at this point, things became especially rude as Brooke said to him, ‘I’m excited about later with you and me though,’ implying they would be ‘rooting’ after the show.

Nevertheless, the pair managed to pull themselves together and, despite mispronouncing a few words, presented the award to The Teskey Brothers.

Later in the night, the drunken couple were nominated for Best Country Album with their second studio album together Up, Down and Sideways.

She was presented the accolade by Dolly Parton who sent in a congratulatory video message for the 36-year-old.

Other nominees in the category included Brad Cox with Acres and The Wolfe Brothers with Livin’ The Dream.
