ARIA Awards 2023: Emma’s revenge: Watkins beats out her former band The Wiggles for Best Children’s Album after launching her own kids show

Emma Watkins won Best Children’s Album at the 37th annual ARIA Music Awards on Wednesday night, beating out her former band The Wiggles.

The 34-year-old, who rose to fame as the Yellow Wiggle before quitting the band in 2021, won the coveted prize for her debut album featuring her character name Emma Memma.

Emma took to the stage at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion to accept the award in an eye-popping orange dress, alongside her husband Oliver Brian.

The Wiggles were nominated for their hit album Ready, Steady, Wiggle!

Other nominees in the Best Children’s Album category were Peter Combe for Planet Earth 3rd From The Sun, and Play School for Very Jazzy Street Party.

Bananas and Other Delicious Things by Whistle & Trick was also nominated.

It comes after Emma launched a new children’s entertainment franchise last year featuring her character ‘Emma Memma’, following her departure from The Wiggles.

The Sydney-born star could not wipe the smile off her face as she posed for photographs and interacted with the crowd on the red carpet a head of the ceremony.

Unfortunately, Watkins couldn’t attend the event as she was at a signing in Perth for her new children’s book Emma Memma’s Alphabet Day.

Her alter ego still features Emma’s trademark curly hair, but she has dyed it red to match her bright orange dress and pink shirt.

Her first album as the new character, who uses Auslan, went to number one on the charts.

More recently, Emma competed on The Amazing Race Australia with her sister Hayley.
