Arsenal agree £900,000 deal with Hertha Berlin for teenage defender Omar Rekik

  • Matteo Guendouzi has joined German club Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan 
  • The hot-headed Arsenal midfielder was frozen out by Mikel Arteta this season
  • Arsenal will sign 18-year-old centre-back Omar Rekik as part of the deal
  • He will be part of Arsenal’s U23 squad, provided he completes his medical

Arsenal have agreed a £900,000 fee with Hertha Berlin for teenage defender Omar Rekik.

The Bundesliga side confirmed the loan signing of Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi earlier on Monday. 

And, as part of negotiations, the north London side have put a deal in place for Hertha’s 18-year-old Dutch centre-back who was previously at Manchester City.

Rekik is still to have his medical ahead of completing the transfer. He will be part of Arsenal’s U23 squad. 

Guendouzi has become surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta this season after questions were raised over his attitude. 

He arrived from Lorient in 2018 for £8million but was in trouble with his boss towards the end of last season after it was reported he taunted Brighton players about their wages during a Premier League game.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Daniel Ballard, 21, has joined Blackpool on loan.
