A man has been filmed escaping from a police officer’s grip and performing a cartwheel before he was finally pinned down and handcuffed.

Footage posted online showed the unnamed man cartwheeling across a car park outside the Florida Mall at the Blossom Trail in Orlando, Florida, on Monday.

At the beginning of the clip the man seemed to be blocking a truck and directed his gaze towards the driver as he performed a number of stunts.

Eventually he gestured a cross sign over his body and lay down on the tarmac.

The man dramatically threw his white baseball cap across the car park towards the truck – sparking laughter in those watching nearby.

He later said 'I'm sorry' as he was handcuffed (pictured)

Later in the clip a Sheriff Orange County officer tried to arrest the man, but he managed to escape the officer’s grip.

When he was pulled up to his knees the man apologized, saying: ‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry.’ 

It is not known if he was charged with a crime.

The video has been shared on social media sites and gained over 50K views across different platforms.

One user wrote: ‘That goofy cartwheel cost them ample getaway time. But it sure looked fun.’
