Attadale crash: Bailey Burns remembered as a loving soul after high speed crash in Perth

The family and friends of a young man have been left reeling after he died in a high speed crash.

Bailey Burns, 23, lost control of his car and collided with a tree on Canning Highway in Attadale in Perth’s south early Saturday morning.

WA Police has since confirmed officers were attempting to pull Mr Burns over at the time after spotting his Holden Statesman driving at speed in the opposite direction.

He died at the scene, despite desperate efforts from emergency responders to save him.

Harrowing photos from the scene show the car flipped upside down and ripped in half from the force of the crash with pieces of the vehicle strewn all across the Canning Highway and up against a tree.

Mr Burns’ death sparked an outpouring of tributes on social media.

‘Still shocked to the core to hear this. Rest easy’ one wrote.

Another added: ‘Hold your loved ones a little closer.’

Hours after his death, a GoFundMe was launched to help support Mr Burns’ family pay for a funeral and the ‘send off he deserves’.

‘For those that know, we all recently lost a loving soul of ours Bailey Burns,’ the fundraising page stated.

‘This Go Fund me is to help cover funeral costs and anything else related, our small family appreciates any donation big or small.’

The GoFundMe raised more than $34,000 within a few hours.

The extent of carnage shocked residents who live near the crash site.

‘It was quite scary actually. There was total silence, there wasn’t another car in sight. When I walked out it was eerie, no doubt about that,’ one longtime local told The West Australian.

‘There were just bits of car all over the road. It was just the horror of scrap metal everywhere. Some bits were thrown over one person’s gate.

‘It didn’t sound like a crash though, it sounded like a thud. Like something had hit your roof. It wasn’t a tinny sound like a crash.’

Major Crash investigators have conducted an examination of the scene as the Internal Affairs Unit launched its own investigation.

Anyone with information or has footage of Holden Statesman prior to the crash is urged to contact police.
