Aussie Olympians to be secured against drone attacks and cyber threats for Paris games

Aussie Olympians to be secured against drone attacks and cyber threats from WOKE activists and anti-government protesters in unprecedented measures for Paris games

  • Increased security presence at Paris Olympics
  • Fears protesters could disrupt the Games
  • 2024 Paris Olympics start on July 26

Aussie Olympic athletes will be secured from potential drone attacks when competing for medals and possible cyber threats at the Paris Games next year thanks to beefed up security.

It comes after French officials recently voiced their fears about the possibility of climate activists and anti-government protesters disrupting the Games.

Anna Meares, Australia’s Chef de Mission for Paris 2024, confirmed athlete safety is the chief priority.

Meares, an Olympic gold-medal winning cyclist in 2004 and 2012, also stated the team will be tailed by a member of the Australian Federal Police at all times.

It comes as the French capital has endured civil unrest recently, and they are taking no chances when it comes to any individual or group looking to hijack the Games, which begin on July 26 next year.

According to News Corp, the French government has outlined plans to deploy 35,000 security guards and the military to ensure the opening ceremony and then all sporting events run like clockwork.

‘Definitely talking to our member sports, security is one of the biggest issues that they raise,’ Meares said.

‘We feel that France and the organising committee for the Paris Games are going to ensure a safe Games for all participants.

‘The Australian Olympic team will have a member of the AFP [Australian Federal Police] as well as private security on hand to ensure our teams are safe while they are there.’

Meares added she knows first hand the importance of security being of ‘paramount importance’ after she competed at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

It was the first Games staged since the 9/11 attack in the US three years earlier, with terrorism at the forefront of many people’s minds at the time.

The development comes as criticism continues to mount over the AOC’s decision that athletes will be sent home immediately from Paris after they finish competing.

Other concerns raised include the removal of air conditioning from the athletes village and the stifling heat forecast during the competition.
