Australian rock singer John Farnham will stage a charity concert in a bid to raise millions of dollars for drought-affected farmers.

The 70-year-old will headline the Hay Mate: A Bush Christmas Appeal at the Mornington racecourse in Melbourne on December 15.

‘It’s an emotional time,’ Farnham told the Herald Sun.

‘We’re talking about generations of farmers losing their properties or animals because of drought and in some cases losing their lives or hurting themselves.

‘We have to try and make a dent in it and throw a lot of money at this thing.’

Farnham headlined at a Hay Mate: Buy a Bale concert held in Tamworth, NSW last year, along with Guy Sebastian and The Veronicas.

His upcoming charity concert will also feature Daryl Braithwaite and Vanessa Amorosi.

Farnham and his manager Glen Wheatley had last year launched their Buy a Bale program to support farmers struggling to feed their livestock.

Over $3million worth of hay were donated to farmers in areas such as Moree, Gunnedah and Tamworth.

Wheatley recalled one farmer who resorted to feeding his cattle with porridge and pasta mixed into paste because there was no other food.

Amorosi will perform at the concert after her experience of rescuing malnourished horses during a previous drought in Victoria, where bale was ‘very expensive’.

Farnham’s upcoming concert comes after the You’re The Voice singer was forced to cancel his Australian tour last minute in April due to a ‘severe’ kidney infection.
