Australia dominates India in Women’s Twenty20 World Cup final as nearly 100,000 flock to the MCG

‘This is INSANE’: Fans cram the 100,000-capacity MCG as Australia makes a brilliant start to Women’s Twenty20 World Cup final against India – and they witness a record-breaking innings from Alyssa Healy

Almost 100,000 cricket fans have witnessed history at the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup final between Australia and India.

The almost capacity crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is the biggest ever for a women’s cricket match.

After a pre-match concert from US superstar Katy Perry, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first.

It took superstar opener Alyssa Healy just 30 balls to smash a half century-  the fastest 50 in a women’s or men’s international match- leaving commentators and legends of the game stunned.

With husband Mitchell Starc in the stands after returning from the Australian’s mens tour of South Africa, Healy went to score 75 from 39 balls- the highest individual score in a Women’s World Cup T20 final.

Healy’s innings was part of a 114-run opening partnership with Beth Mooney.

Australia are looking for their fifth Twenty20 World Cup title and seek revenge from their loss to India earlier on in the tournament group stages.

More to come.
