Australian actress reveals the hardest Celine Dion songs to sing as she nabs the role of a lifetime playing the iconic singer – but does she look anything like the superstar?

A hit musical based on the music of Celine Dion is heading Down Under after rave reviews in New York.

Australian star of stage and screen, Marney McQueen, has nabbed the role of the lifetime and will play the French-Canadian singer in the jukebox musical Titanique.

But does McQueen, who has starred in several TV shows as well as stage productions of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Hairspray, look anything like the 56-year-old songbird?

The actor and stand up comedian was all smiles at the announcement of the new musical’s Sydney show.

Marney wore a pink pantsuit and sported a very different hair and makeup style to Celine’s signature slicked back hair and glittery gown at the recent Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Though the musical theatre star might not be a dead ringer for the beloved pop legend, she has received gushing reviews for her imitation of the speaking and singing voice of Dion.

On Wednesday, McQueen revealed to news.com.au which of the singer’s most iconic song is the hardest to sing.

McQueen claimed My Heart Will Go On was the most difficult.

‘That’s obviously the hardest song to sing,’ she said of the hit song, which famously accompanied James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster film, Titanic.

The musical, which McQueen stars in is also related to the Titanic tragedy, as it imagines Celine Dion on the ship on the night that it sunk in 1912.

The show, which has been described as an ‘hysterical musical fantasia,’ uses Dion’s huge catalogue of songs to retell the story of the Titanic’s fateful voyage.

McQueen also had to engage a vocal coach as so many of Dion’s songs are ‘big and powerful.’

Other than My Heart Will Go On, the musical theatre star claimed another song in Celine Dion’s catalogue was tough to perform.

‘I Surrender, which I sing as the ship goes down. It’s relentless,’ she admitted.

I Surrender was a single from Dion’s eighteenth studio album, A New Day Has Come, which went double platinum in Australia for its 2002 release.

McQueen described the show was a ‘love letter to Celine Dion.’

‘She’s got an incredible sense of humour, she’s extremely funny, and all of that is infused throughout the show.’

McQueen’s co-stars include Drew Weston, who plays Jack Dawson, Georgina Hopson, who plays Rose, and Abu Kebe, who plays the icebeg.

Also joining the cast is former So You Think You Can Dance judge, Matt Lee, who will be playing Victor Garber.

Titanique premieres in Sydney at The Grand Electric from September 12.
