Awkward moment Scott Morrison swears on TV after getting catastrophically tongue tied

Scott Morrison has made another embarrassing blunder when a tricky tongue twister saw him accidentally swear on live television. 

The prime minister was speaking to reporters about funding for Adelaide’s North-South Corridor when he became unexpectedly tongue-tied.

‘This brings to completion the full financial commitment of the Commonwealth government to this sh*tty, city, ship, city shaping,’ he fumbled. 

‘Gotta be careful with that,’ the PM laughed awkwardly. ‘Sure that’ll get a run.’

Mr Morrison was attempting to announce $2.26 billion in funding to build a 78km freeway connecting Adelaide’s north and south suburbs. 

The funding will finalise the federal government’s contribution to the $9.9 billion project with the rest to be paid for by the state. 

The project will build tunnels from Mile End to Torrensville and from Clovelly Park to Glandore without destroying heritage homes or splitting suburbs in two.  

The slip-up was just days after Mr Morrison awkwardly showed off his musical skills to his family and host Karl Stefanovic while playing the ukulele at the dinner table. 

The extended clip is part of an upcoming 60 Minutes interview due to air on Sunday evening and has since copped criticism on social media. 

Mr Morrison got a few lines into the 1977 song ‘April Sun In Cuba’ by New Zealand rock band Dragon before forgetting the words.

‘Take me to the April sun in Cuba oh oh oh – take me to the April sun in Cuba – I cant remember the words – oh oh oh,’ he joked.

‘Quite staggering that not one of Scott Morrison’s media advisers asked ‘What’s the first place that people associate the ukulele with?’ before going ahead with that scene,’ sports journalist Alexander Grant tweeted. 

‘OK, did not expect to see Scott Morrison busting out a ukulele on 60 minutes and singing April Sun in Cuba,’ another wrote.

Stefanovic could be seen urging Jenny to ‘join in’ as the prime minister’s daughters Lily and Abbey watched his efforts from the other side of the table. 

Mrs Morrison spoke of the lonely heartbreak of ‘doing it alone’ while her husband runs Australia in another preview of the personal pre-election interview. 

Jenny admitted her loneliness had made her feel resentful during her husband’s time in the country’s top job. 

‘There was a time where I couldn’t help feeling resentful that I was doing it alone,’ she said while seated next to her husband. 

‘It was something we had both wanted – but then it was only me experiencing it’. 

‘But time is a great leveler. As it went along, I learned to cope better and accepted it – that way the resentment could go because that wasn’t good for our relationship.’

The pre-election interview comes after a horror week for the PM which started with a Newspoll showing the government trailing Labor by 12 points, which if replicated on election day would mean the Coalition losing 25 seats.

He was then roasted by journalists at the National Press Club where he admitted making several errors during the pandemic but refused to apologise and failed to name the price of bread, petrol and rapid antigen tests.

Mr Morrison was later asked about texts from 2019 in which then-NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian allegedly called him a ‘horrible, horrible person’ and a one of his own ministers branded him a ‘complete psycho’.

On Friday, texts were made public of National Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce calling Mr Morrison a ‘hypocrite and a liar’.

Mr Joyce apologised to the prime minister and offered to resign. The apology was accepted, but the resignation was not.
