A one-year-old girl was pulled from a swimming pool and declared dead twice by medics before beginning to show signs of life.

The youngster, named locally as Lillian Talboys, is now in a critical condition and being treated in Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Arizona.

Fire and Medical crews responded to an emergency call at the girl’s home in Mesa on Friday and arrived to find family members had pulled her from the water.

It has not been confirmed by officials how long she was in the water, but a GoFundMe posted by relatives stated she slipped and fell in the pool while playing with her three brothers in the backyard.

Her oldest sibling was standing just inside an outside door when he heard screaming and ran to find Lillian floating on her back in the pool.

The boy jumped into the water and pulled his sister out and smacked her on the back to try and resuscitate her.

Lillian’s mother immediately started CPR and chest compressions but the girl was unresponsive.

Baby Lillian was rushed to hospital where trauma staff continued to try and bring her back to life but she was pronounced dead.

Her mother thought she still felt a faint heartbeat and the hospital staff again tried to continue to revive Lillian, but she was pronounced dead for the second time before 12pm.

After being moved to a room to wait for a medical examiner, Lillian’s mother insisted she could still feel a heartbeat and even felt her baby grab her hand.

Medics said Lillian had passed away and that these were residual brain impulses, until her mother continued to insist Lillian was alive and resuscitation efforts continued and a CT scan was ordered.

Lillian is now in a critical condition with a steady heartbeat and on a ventilator after she was revived at around 3am on Saturday morning.

Her dad, who has seven children with his wife, told KPHO four of his children were playing around the pool when Lillian fell in as she chased her older brothers.

Her father added: ‘She’s fighting, fighting, fighting.’

Detective Jason Flam of the Mesa Police Department told KPHO: ‘There are no suspicious circumstances. It’s just a very tragic incident.’

A GoFundMe page entitled ‘Baby Lillian, My Little Christmas Miracle’ has been created by the family, said she is on a ‘heart and lung bypass machine’.

It reads: ‘She is still fighting sedation. It’s day by day, hour by hour right now.’

‘We are in constant prayers to the Lord, in our hearts and minds, with gratitude and thanksgiving as we see this as a true Christmas miracle despite the obstacles surrounding her.’
