Barcelona interested in signing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak as Xavi looks for long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski

  • Newcastle forward Alexander Isak is reportedly a target for Barcelona
  • Robert Lewandowski has just turned 35 and the club need to plan ahead
  • Newcastle only signed Isak for a club-record £63m last summer

Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Fichajes claim Xavi is a big fan of the forward and he has been targeted as the club look to bolster their forward options.

They are also planning their long-term future with Robert Lewandowski now 35 years of age.

Signing Isak will be no easy task with the striker having signed for a club-record £63m last summer.

He has scored 12 goals in 31 matches but has had to compete with Callum Wilson for the starting role up front.

Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Wilson started up front on Saturday and scored the only goal as Newcastle beat Brentford 1-0.

Isak’s contract runs up until 2028 and it is unlikely that Barcelona will make any serious move until the summer.

And Newcastle will be looking to get the same fee they paid if they are to part ways with him.

That will be tough for the Spanish club, who are still in financial trouble.
